In a sharepic of the federal situation report, the creator left some points unconsidered. This is what the figures from the federal situation report are all about:

We are currently receiving a few inquiries about a sharepic that shows parts of a document from the federal situation report. Between 2014 and 2018, the overall number of crimes related to immigration is said to have increased by several hundred percent.

It's about the following sharepic, which is shared on Facebook:

The fact check

As the fact checkers at CORRECTIV researched, the numbers are misleading due to mislabeling of the crimes and are fundamentally not comparable.

They actually come from the Federal Situation Report on Crime in the Context of Immigration 2018 (see PDF ). It should be noted, however, that the federal situation report created since 2015 only says something about suspects - not about convicted criminals.

In addition, the definition of the word “immigrant” has changed since 2014. The BKA writes this in the 2017 management report on page 3 .

According to the federal situation report, the current definition of “immigrant” refers to people who have been registered as “asylum seekers”, “beneficiaries of protection and asylum”, “quota refugees”, “toleration”, or “unauthorized residence”. (See PDF page 2 )

People with a positive asylum application were not included in the statistics before 2017, which explains why the numbers rose so sharply from 2017 onwards. In the 2016 report, the BKA points out in the introduction on page 2 that the information on suspected immigrants only represents a “subset of the group of people to be taken into account”. A spokeswoman also confirmed this to Correctiv.

"This group of people was not included in the statistics until the 2016 reporting year because they were recorded under the collective term 'other permitted stay' and their share in this category could not be quantified."

Here's another article from Correctiv that goes even deeper into the matter.

Conclusion

The calculation on the Sharepic doesn't quite add up because the creator leaves some points unconsidered.
