The read confirmation in WhatsApp often makes life difficult for us because you don't always want the sender to know that you have "read" something. In this article we will show you how to bypass the blue ticks in voice messages!
As is well known, WhatsApp marks sent messages (voice messages) with different ticks for its users so that they can see at first glance whether the message was delivered, received or read by the recipient.
- A gray tick means that the message was sent successfully and has arrived on the WhatsApp server.
- Two gray ticks indicate that the message has been received on the recipient's phone.
- Two blue checkmarks indicate that the recipient has read the message.
The latter can be deactivated.
This means that you no longer send “read confirmations”, but you also do not receive any information about whether messages sent have been read. This setting can be made under “Account” – “Data protection”.

Exception: voice messages.
This doesn't work here. Whether enabled or disabled, blue checkmarks will always appear after listening. But you can get around this with a trick.
You open the chat with the voice message, but do not press the play button and therefore do not listen to the message. Instead, you hold your finger on the message long enough to mark it. A menu will now appear. By clicking on the right arrow you can forward the message to another chat. This means it is not marked as “read” or in this case “heard”. You can then listen to it in the chat to which you forwarded the message. This should be a trustworthy contact because of course they can also hear the message.

There is still a possibility.
You can share a voice message and forward it to your email address. However, it should be noted that this is the “ Opus ” file format. In order to play these on your PC, you need a corresponding media player.

Behind every WhatsApp message, a time is displayed next to the various ticks.
This shows when the user sent or received a message. But there is also a hidden view in which you can see exactly when a recipient has read a message.
Android users can see this information by holding down a message with their finger and then selecting the “i” or the three dots and then “Info” in the status bar.

The query via “Info” also works on iOS if you have marked a message. Alternatively, iOS users can simply swipe the message to the left.
If you have deactivated the read receipt, you cannot see when a message was read, but you can at least see whether it was read. According to WhatsApp, this shouldn't work, but you can still see whether a message has been read or not in the "Info" context menu. The only thing missing is the exact time. This bug has its advantages. In group chats you can see which group members have read a message or not yet.
