A scene on the highway and a little viral video: A man calls the car in front of him on the highway and tells him: “The left lane is for overtaking.”

Actually, he doesn't just lecture him, he even insults him with the words "idiot" and "cunt". And all because he can't get past the car in front of him on the highway.

It is a short video which, according to a Twitter user, comes from an Instagram account. The linked Instagram account is currently no longer accessible.

A discussion has started under the Twitter account: Is the video real? Where did the driver who calls himself “Christian” get his phone number? Who is filming the whole thing?

The answer is quite astonishing: the video and the situation are real!

Fact check highway

Hessischer Rundfunk spoke to the protagonist of the video. In the article “Here is Christian, the left lane is for overtaking,” the driver explains the reason for his phone call: In his opinion, the vehicle in front on the highway should have let him pass. It was simply too slow for him.

Since there was a company phone number on the Smart car in front, “Christian” called it and informed the driver of this. Likewise with the insults heard in the video.

According to the driver, his passenger called and filmed. As proof of this, he shows his tattooed hand in the interview, which should be used as a comparison to the hand in the video. To what extent this is appropriate (smartphone moves with the rhythm of speech, especially at the point when he uses the term driving on the right; the passenger would also have a very tense posture when filming with his left hand and holding his smartphone with his right hand) is ultimately up to the authorities to clarify.

Because of the tag in the tweet, the police have now become aware of the case and are investigating. The video on the highway could therefore have consequences. The entire report and also the interview with the driver can be found here .
