Fraudsters want to make money via email. They claim to have filmed the recipient performing sexual acts and are blackmailing him.

Sometimes the emails even contain real passwords that the recipient actually uses somewhere!

As our cooperation partner checked4you reports, the blackmail comes via email.

Money should be paid to a specific Bitcoin address. This allows the recipient to prevent their recordings from being published online. These recordings are said to show him engaging in sexual acts while watching porn.

The sender claims to have hacked the camera on the recipient's smartphone or computer and thus obtained the recordings, report the Rhineland-Palatinate State Criminal Police Office (LKA) .

As the Bochum police report, similar blackmail letters are even sent as letters. However, you shouldn't panic if you receive a letter or email like this!

“The threatening emails are mass mailings to randomly selected addressees,”

says the LKA. So it's probably just spam ! The investigators have no evidence that the email recipients' computers or cell phones were actually hacked or that such videos, as claimed by the sender, actually exist.

However, the online portal mimikama.org on a case in which a Facebook user was blackmailed in a similar way with fake chats and the employer was actually informed. So if you are blackmailed with an email or letter, report it to the police!

In order to increase their credibility, the unknown senders now even put real passwords in the email that the recipient actually uses somewhere, reports heise.de .

However, they probably come from cracked databases and have nothing to do with the claim in the email. If you receive a message like this and recognize your password, change it wherever you use it. using secure password for each service anyway

It is actually possible to hack cameras so that they can film you without being noticed.

But you can prevent this with a simple measure: cover the camera of your monitor or smartphone with a small piece of paper and free it from it when you need it.
