Yesterday we received a text from a nurse that she posted on Facebook.
Her message to us was: “Hello everyone! Unfortunately, not everyone still understands what Corona is all about. Lots of rumors, everyone gets upset, doesn't understand the measures. I have written a text on this that has already been widely shared, and I would be happy if it reached even more people so that as many people as possible get it. Panic: no, caution: yes! As a nurse, I don't want to experience what my Italian colleagues are currently going through. Maybe you can distribute my text somehow? Kind regards and thank you for your important work! Dominic”
Dear Dominique! Yes, we are happy to distribute this content! (sic!)

Dominique R: Can everyone please calm down now?
Yes, Corona will come. And yes, the restrictions as a result are not nice. We are supposed to minimize our social contacts, the Bundesliga is paused, concerts are canceled, schools and kindergartens are closed, grandparents in old people's homes are no longer allowed to be visited, excursions are canceled... that limits us and is very annoying, of course you can get upset about that now.
On the other hand, supermarkets are being bought empty, disinfectants are being stolen from hospitals, protective masks are being sold at inflated prices, every coughing person is being killed with a glance, and absurd theories are being spread. This corona virus must be dangerous, otherwise the media wouldn't report on it like this. All the restrictions now increase the fear. Why take such extreme measures if it is not extremely dangerous? You have to panic and in an emergency everyone has to take care of themselves, screw everyone else.
I think you didn't understand something.
The corona virus is treacherous. Maybe you are already infected and don't even know it because you don't have any symptoms. But you can infect others. And they infect people again. And then the next ones. I was never good at math, but even I understood what an exponential function was. So if we continue to live happily as before, we will spread the infection within a very short time.
Unfortunately, there are severe cases that require inpatient treatment, extremely serious cases in which sufferers require highly complex intensive medical treatment. This particularly affects older people and, as is well known, there are a lot of them in Germany.
So if you continue to go to concerts and meet all your friends and someone infects you (the more contacts, the higher the probability, right?) and then you visit your dear grandma in the home, this may have the consequence that your grandma and many other home residents become seriously ill.
If not only you act like this, but also everyone else, then an incredible number of people will become seriously ill and need to be treated in hospital.
- And then it becomes difficult, because how are hospitals supposed to cope with this flood of patients?
- Where will the staff suddenly come from?
- Where should you conjure up the bed spaces?
- How can you ventilate so many people if there aren't enough machines?
- And how are the doctors and nurses supposed to care for the other people who need to be hospitalized with all the other illnesses and injuries that life has to offer?
The health system would collapse completely and you can't even imagine that. We're preparing as best we can, but we need your help!
This crisis affects us all.
Each of us should be particularly careful and accept the restrictions. Don't worry! This must be done to protect society as a whole. Solidarity is needed now and everyone is responsible. To fall into panic? No, definitely not. We have to show prudence and consideration now so that the number of infections increases as slowly as possible. Then we can deal with this impending crisis well. But we can only do this together!
So please, calm down, accept the temporary restrictions, don't get upset and don't be afraid. Stay cool! This will help us all the most.
PS: to all egoists…. If you don't want to do it for others, not for society, then think about yourself. How am I supposed to care for you after an accident if all my colleagues are out due to illness and I still have to care for thirty corona patients alone? And it's your foot that's rotting off because unfortunately I'm out of disinfectant when everything was stolen. Think about it.
