Fraudsters have existed as long as humanity has existed. In Vienna, fake collectors are currently scamming homeless people out of donations.

Under the “Cartias” logo, Caritas Vienna is currently warning via Facebook about false collectors who, in the name of Caritas, ask passers-by in front of subway and tram stations to donate to the crypt .

Caritas expressly points out that they do not station fundraisers in front of subway stations or other public places. She also doesn't send collectors to inns to collect donations for the food bus!

Caritas is increasingly receiving complaints from passers-by and advises:

Look closely when someone asks you for money: Is it a poor person asking for a few euros - or is it someone collecting donations in front of a subway in the name of Caritas or the Gruft. In this case, we ask you to inform us (wirhelfer@caritas-wien.at), with the place and time and ideally with a photo, so that we can file a report if necessary.

By the way, you can always refer hungry people looking for help to our houses and advice centers. Caritas helps homeless people with warm food, fresh clothing and emergency accommodation. We also advise you on how to get out of homelessness, you can find all offers at: https://www.caritas-wien.at/hilfe-angebote/obdach-wohnen/

If you would like to support the crypt or other offers for homeless people through collectors, you can do so via www.gruft.at or www.caritas.at.
