Warning directly to your cell phone or smartphone: With the new cell broadcast technology introduced in Germany on February 23, 2023, warnings are sent to many mobile devices.
This system allows alerts to be sent to all compatible mobile devices (smartphones and traditional cell phones) located within a specific area of the mobile network. This allows warnings to be sent specifically to the population affected by a dangerous situation.
A warning message is sent directly to the mobile phone and contains information about the warning level, time, location, recommended action and issuing authority. Cell Broadcast is part of the “Modular Warning System” (MoWaS), which includes various analog and digital warning devices, such as television, radio, social media, city information systems, sirens and warning apps.
No prior installation of an app, registration or provision of personal information is required to receive Cell Broadcast. The warning message is sent to all mobile devices that are ready to receive the signal, without any personal data being collected or processed. The sender of the warning message does not know or record the recipients' mobile phone numbers or other data. A list of devices capable of receiving cell broadcasting is available . Telekom also has its own information page .
