Post a revocation on Facebook? A shortened version of an old chain letter is currently circulating on Facebook, which represents a revocation of an alleged Facebook rule.

New version of an old chain letter circulating on Facebook

The short text represents a revocation of the alleged rights that Facebook claims.
It is a chain letter that has been circulating for years.

And once again a new version of an old chain letter is circulating that has been causing mischief on Facebook for years. The text now reads as follows:

I hereby revoke permission for Facebook or any Facebook-affiliated organizations to use my images, information, messages or posts, both past and future. The content of this profile is private and confidential information. Violation of privacy can be punished by law.

The fact check

The origin of this message is a much longer and more complex text. ( We reported )

The bottom line is always the same: “Tomorrow” or “today” a new Facebook rule will come into force to the detriment of users. To oppose this, the revocation should be copied and reposted. Nice story, if it weren't completely fictional!

It represents a construct of many different chain letters and already exists in all possible variations. The status posts shown above are not even a fraction of the versions in circulation. One of them also includes a part with the Rome Statute . For others it is simply a matter of Facebook taking over all rights over the profile.

No matter which version you see on your news feed, they are all not true.

Just the vague time reference of “tomorrow and today” doesn’t quite work, because the text has been copied and shared on Facebook for years. Theoretically, everything in the last three to five years should have been published by everyone who did NOT post this “statement” back then… and what happened? Exactly, nothing!

Conclusion

Don't worry, there is no deadline and you don't need to post a cancellation notice on your news feed.

Regardless of the version, the text is a persistent chain letter construct that spreads false information. Because there is no way that everything will be posted publicly “tomorrow or today”.
