The Internet can no longer get rid of this annoying chain letter. The claim that a virus is hiding behind Hannes Bochtler has been circulating on social networks for years.

Oh yes, the good old Hannes Bochtler virus... sometimes he comes in the company of someone else. For example Marcel Hohmann . For once without the hacking telephone terrorist. But it keeps coming – namely in the form of a chain letter that is shared again and again, especially on Facebook:

Please tell all the people on your list not to accept contact with 'Hannes Bochtler'! This is a virus (via WhatsApp etc.) that destroys the entire hard drive and downloads the data. If one of your contacts catches it, you will also be affected because it eats its way through the list! So copy and send!!! If the number 017630664014 calls you, don't answer it! Is a hacker and all your contacts will be affected too! It was also confirmed by Antenne Bayern and RTL this morning! Forward!

In this report we already explained that it was a hoax and that there was absolutely no point in sharing it.

So what – here’s the fact check again!

What we see here is a chain letter that has been making the rounds on Facebook for years. In fact, since 2011 .

It all started with the non-existent Moritz Häupl and later the equally unreal Christian Wick . In 2012 Christian Wick suddenly became Marcel Hohmann and in 2014 then Domenik Beuting and Andreas Opitz . It continued in 2015 with Ute Christoff . Ute Christoff then became Ute Lehr and now we have reached a certain Hannes Bochtler .

Technically not possible at all!

  1. Whatever (fake) person is called, it is not a virus. Unless the fake Hannes has one.
  2. He also can't destroy a hard drive or download any data, because something like that only happens if you catch a Trojan.
  3. Even if a friend had “ Hannes Bochtler ” as a “friend”, he would still not have access to your data.
  4. “Because he eats his way through the list….” We hope that Hannes Bochtler doesn't choke and get an overfull stomach.

There is absolutely no truth to the claims; The attack on the hard drive is just as fake as the confirmations from EUROP1, RTL and SAT1. This also applies to “ Hannes Bochtler ” or any other name that appears in such chain letters!

Result

It's a tall tale. They are chain letters shared by ignorant people. In order to really get to the user's data, you would need access to the computer. Yes, something like that can happen through a “phishing attack” or if you catch a Trojan, but that has nothing to do with the above status posts and is a completely different topic!
