A friendly “Grüß Gott” to greet the students is not appropriate, “as that could offend the Muslim classmates.” A young teacher wrote her heartfelt frustration on this topic, and the text is now circulating as a kind of chain letter on the Internet.

Chain letter about “Grüß Gott” / Screenshot Facebook

You should read this carefully.
Someone has written something from their hearts.
And she's right. This is awesome!!! (comes from a young teacher!)🧐 Dear responsible state and district school councilors and politicians, dear foreigners!

If we are no longer allowed to say 'Grüß Gott', there is only one alternative: you have the RIGHT to leave Germany if it doesn't suit you!
We in Germany should slowly wake up too!
At the start of school in Stuttgart schools, the children were informed by their class teachers how to behave in society. Greetings, saying please and thank you, just being polite and friendly. So far it's okay, but they were also informed that the 'Grüß Gott', which we are familiar with in Baden-Württemberg, is no longer allowed to be used because it could offend their Muslim classmates. As a normal citizen, you can't really add anything more to that and just shake your head.
I can't believe it at all.
But is true. You are welcome to inquire at the elementary schools in Stuttgart. IMMIGRANTS AND NOT THE Germans SHOULD ADJUST!
I am tired of seeing this nation worry about whether we are offending any individual or their culture.

The majority of Germans are patriotic about our country. But always and everywhere you hear voices from 'politically correct' circles who fear that our patriotism could offend others. Please don't take this the wrong way, I am by no means anti-immigration;
Most came to Germany because they hoped for a better life here. But there are a few things that newcomers, and apparently those born here, should definitely keep in mind.
The idea of Germany as a multicultural community has so far only led to a considerable dilution of our sovereignty and our national identity.

As Germans, we have our own culture, our own social order, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has developed over centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women seeking freedom. We speak German here, not Turkish, English, Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language.
So if you want to become part of our society, then please learn the language! 'In the name of God' is our national motto.
This is not just any political slogan from the right-wing parties. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women founded and developed this state according to Christian principles. It is therefore not unreasonable to manifest this on the walls of our schools with a cross.
If you feel offended by God, then I suggest you choose another place in the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture. If the cross at school disgusts you, or if you don't like the Christian faith, then you should seriously consider moving to another part of this planet, it's big enough. We are happy and content with our culture here and have no desire to change much and we don't care at all how things were where you came from. This is OUR STATE, OUR COUNTRY, and OUR WAY OF LIFE, and we would like to give you every opportunity to enjoy all of this and our prosperity with us.

But if you do nothing other than complain, moan and complain about our flag, our vows, our national motto or our way of life, then I would like to strongly encourage you to make use of another, great German freedom, namely the 'RIGHT TO US TO LEAVE IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT!'
If you're not happy here the way it is, get out!
We didn't force you to come here. They asked us to stay here. So kindly accept the country that accepted YOU. It's actually quite simple when you think about it, right?
If we forward this letter to our friends and acquaintances, then sooner or later the complainants will also get their hands on it.
You could at least try. No matter how many times you receive it... just keep sending it to everyone you know! … How true!
One more reason not to vote for the Greens! 🙈😡

This text has been around for a long time

We already reported on this chain letter
in 2019 and 2013 In 2019, the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Culture also commented on this:

It has already been established here that it is a fake. There is no “Howdy ban”.

Just because something is posted again and again doesn't make it any more true

This letter has been distributed via social networks and messengers for several years. The interesting thing about it: In the early versions of the chain letter, schools in Austria were mentioned instead of Baden-Württemberg. Some places in the letter were changed and thus adapted for Germany.

Nevertheless, hints of the Austrian origin can still be seen. The text speaks of primary schools instead of primary schools. You will also find the terms “complaint” and “complainant”. In Germany one would probably rather speak of “complaining” and the “complainants”.

ORF reported on the chain letter, which was supposed to affect schools in Linz, Austria, in 2008.
Die Welt published an article on this topic, which was about Baden-Württemberg.
Incidentally, a similar text was also published in 2009 by an Australian Prime Minister “Patriotic Australian Prime Minister” .

Conclusion

This letter is an inflammatory text that contains no shred of truth as to the alleged starting point for the rant. There is no ban on the greeting “Grüß Gott” in schools in either Baden-Württemberg or Linz.

As the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Culture explained in 2019:
“That’s why we make it clear: This is a fake, there is no ban on saying hello. The text only aims to stir up xenophobic fears.”
