Chat GPT has gained more and more users in the last few weeks and the general enthusiasm for artificial intelligence seems to have increased significantly. While most interested parties just want to try out text AI, reports of potentially problematic applications are increasing. We have also reported on ChatGPT before.

For example, the system seems to be very popular with schoolchildren and students , who can have questions answered or entire texts written. According to a study, AI can even deceive scientific experts .

AIs are “hardly reflected critically”

According to a report from STANDRARD, Oliver Brock from TU Berlin mentions : “In all the current hype and enthusiasm about Chat GPT, reports about what works are currently dominating. You read a lot less about what doesn’t work.”

Accordingly, Brock asks himself whether Chat GPT can even be described as artificial intelligence. According to computer scientist Ute Schmid from the Otto Friedrich University of Bamberg, comparable language models would also make it clear “that stupid memorization and the retrieval of such knowledge in schools and universities is an outdated concept.”

“There’s this hype at the moment. I have the feeling that this system is hardly reflected critically,” explains Ruth Stock-Homburg, a professor at TU Darmstadt, to Heise.de . “You can manipulate these systems,” she found out as part of a research project.

Overall, the experts surveyed come to the conclusion that the results displayed by Chat GPT repeatedly contain anti-Semitic and racist statements, and that sources are often incorrect. It could even be that the AI “simply lies or makes up information on very specific topics.”

Chat GPT does not replace a search engine

All the critical voices are, among other things, the reason why AIs like Chat GPT in their current versions do not yet threaten search engines like Google. Because the results delivered are far too unreliable in the long term, according to DER STANDARD . It is also not easy to distinguish between true and invented or false results of artificial intelligence, since Chat GPT always delivers its answers with complete conviction.

Improvements in sight?

Many users and fans are currently speculating, despite the current restrictions, what improvements an update to the underlying language model could bring. There are high expectations and anticipation from many quarters for the release of the new version “GPT-4”.

The manufacturer, however, expects that people will be disappointed because their expectations are too high: “People are practically begging to be disappointed – and that will happen.” The claim that GPT-4 is much more powerful than the current version is “complete bullshit.”

Nevertheless, continued to be driven by investments

Even if artificial intelligence cannot yet replace a search engine like Google, Microsoft, for example, announced a billion-dollar investment in the manufacturer Open AI . The software company wants to integrate the tool into products such as Bing and Office. Because of the huge hype, Google is now being forced to bring new products Nothing like this has been announced so far.

Nevertheless, they have been working behind the scenes on appropriate tools and systems for a long time and would like to present more than 20 upcoming products in the future.
