Brazen fraud on TikTok: “Schlagerstar” demands money. The Upper Franconian police warn of a new scam on the video platform TikTok.

A woman from the Kulmbach district lost more than 10,000 euros to a criminal.
He contacted her and pretended to be a celebrity on TikTok. In December 2021, a woman from the Kulmbach district fell for a new scam by so-called scammers, i.e. fraudsters who make up stories to get unsuspecting people to transfer money to the criminals. The Bayreuth criminal police have taken over the investigation and are warning of this type of fraud.
The fraudster contacted the 44-year-old in November 2021 via a social network that is best known for its short music and dance videos.
The criminal posed as a prominent pop star. He flirted and ensnared his victim through skillful conversation. The supposedly successful music artist promised his victim that he would produce a music album together with her and other stars. However, he lacks money for this project. After several weeks of communication, the woman believed the fraudster and transferred him a four-digit amount of money. Ultimately, on December 17, 2021, around 12 p.m., the 44-year-old handed over tens of thousands of euros to a woman for another alleged music project with another singer at Bayreuth train station. The person collecting the money traveled to Bayreuth by train and is described as follows:

  • about 50 years
  • blonde hair
  • between 160 and 165 centimeters tall
  • she smoked and had an unkempt appearance
  • she wore a salmon-colored jacket

After the woman became aware that she was a victim of fraud, she contacted the police.
The Bayreuth criminal police have started the investigation and are looking for witnesses.
Anyone who saw the woman collecting her at the train station in Bayreuth on December 17th is asked to contact the criminal police in Bayreuth on the telephone number. 0921/506-0. The investigators expressly warn against this and other forms of scamming and give the following tips:

  • Ignore: Do not respond to the demands. Under no circumstances should you transfer money.
  • Save: Save all emails and messages.
  • Get help: Report it to the police.
  • Block: Cut off all contact.
