When it comes to the origins of the new coronavirus, China's exotic meals are apparently coming into focus again.
The most important thing about the Chinese man who apparently eats a baby:
- The images are from an art festival in China in 2000
- The man is a performance artist
- He admitted years later that the baby wasn't real
Screenshots of a Chinese man apparently preparing and eating a newborn baby are now circulating again.
While some comments make racist comments about “Chinese people who eat everything,” others emphasize that not all Chinese people are like that. But what no one seems to do is question the truth of the images!

When? Who? Where?
We have to go back a few years, to be precise to the year 2000 .
On October 17, 2000, Chinese performance artist Zhu Yu participated in an art festival where he staged his conceptual art project called "Eating People."
The reason he gave for this performance was that no religion prohibits cannibalism and he doesn't know of any law that criminalizes it. He wanted to close the gap between morality and law with the act of eating babies.
Here you can see an interview with the artist a few years later in which he talks about the performance again. The note at the end of the video is interesting, but we will explain it below for everyone who doesn't want to see the video.
Danger! The video contains explicit images!
As can be seen in the video, Zhu Yu quite enjoys doing “body-hugging” art; For example, he once had a piece of meat surgically removed from his stomach to create a work of art and sew it onto the skin of a dead pig.
Did he really eat a baby?
At least that's what Zhu Yu claimed for a long time, saying he stole an aborted fetus from a medical school and actually cooked and ate it.
But that's the thing with avant-garde artists: they want to shock the audience! So it's almost conceivable that he actually cooked and ate a baby. But it is also possible that he used clever tricks.
You have to keep in mind that the festivals in China are mostly state events, and even if there is no law against cannibalism in China (we couldn't verify this, but cannibalism is not a criminal offense ), at least there would have been the illegal theft got the artist into trouble.
The information at the end of the video is also interesting: The creators of the report showed that Zhu Yu later admitted that it was not a real baby; Nevertheless, he had to vomit a few times - which the pictures do not show - before he ate the fetus, which was probably "made" from leftover meat.

Conclusion
Babies are of course not a common food in China, and although the performance artist Zhu Yu aimed to shock his audience, that also has its limits: He admitted years later that it was not a real baby acted.
