China's government questions the origin of the virus and wants to blame the US Army for introducing the virus.

Chinese Foreign Ministry: Coronavirus could have been planted by the US military – First things first:

China's Foreign Ministry is critical of the origin of the coronavirus online and denounces the US Army for introducing the virus while participating in the Military World Games in Wuhan.

US Army as carrier of the virus

Authorities in China have now been dealing with the question of the origin of the coronavirus since the number of new infections has fallen. In a Twitter message, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian denounced the US for bringing the virus to Wuhan.

Zhao called on the US government for transparency via Twitter. The US Army took part in the Military World Games in Wuhan in October 2019. Now the train of thought is that the virus could have been introduced here by the US Army. – Two months before the first case was detected in Wuhan, because the first coronavirus case in Wuhan was confirmed to have been discovered in early December.

More voices to follow

Epidemologist Zhong Nanshan publicly questioned the origin of the virus for the first time at a press conference at the end of February.
A week later, the state news agency Xinhua followed up with the statement that it was absurd to name China as the country of origin of the virus.

Chinese diplomats abroad and ambassadors around the world have also increasingly commented on the question of the origin of the coronavirus in recent days.

Late reaction from the government

Wuhan went into complete lockdown on January 23rd. Shortly before that, five million people left the city. There is great dissatisfaction with the government's late reaction and measures, as party leader Xi has now admitted that he has known about the outbreak since January 7th.

China is currently recording a decline in new infections and is primarily reporting imported cases from abroad.

Criticism of the Chinese government

Academic Hu Xingdou, economics professor at Beijing University of Technology, was critical:

“The coronavirus first appeared in China. In view of this, I think that the Chinese government should not shirk its responsibility here. It should not use state media to pass the buck elsewhere.”

There is currently no evidence of a connection between the outbreak in Wuhan, the USA or other countries. However, the rumor continues to spread online.

Criticism is censored

The government censors criticism online.
More and more Chinese activists and journalists are being arrested. Journalists and politicians are now being criticized as racist and prejudiced when they describe Wuhan as the birthplace of the new coronavirus. In Australia, journalists even receive threatening letters from the Chinese embassy if they refer to the virus as the “Wuhan virus” or “China virus”.

The focus of reporting is shifting

The main focus in reporting is now more on the behavior of the US government and European countries in dealing with the virus. The fact that the origin is now being questioned so “loudly” shows confusion and is probably a product of China’s propaganda strategy. The Communist Party is only too happy to present criticism as an attack against people in China in order to create a sense of community in the sense of “us against them”.
