“You make a bad joke about my wife, then I’ll come on stage and slap you,” the agreement might have been. If only there had been an agreement!

Slap at the Oscars

At the 94th Academy Awards on March 27, 2022, there was an unpleasant scene between presenter Chris Rock and film star Will Smith.
Rock led the evening and liked to garnish nominations with jokes. However, one of the jokes that went completely wrong was linking Jada Pinkett Smith to GIJane because of her shaved head. Smith then slapped comedian Chris Rock.

There are now images circulating on social media that suggest it was a staging. photo of the scene is shared on Twitter and claims that Chris Rock was wearing a protective cheek plaster.

"In 8k quality images you can see a pad on Chris Rock's cheek, yes conspiracy theorists will go crazy over this image."

Translation tweet

This assumption should be confirmed, as you can see posting on Facebook

“If you believe the slap was real. Then why does Chris Rock wear a prosthetic pad on his cheek? He also has his hands behind his back and leans forward. Fake, fake, fake. Everything for the ratings.”

Translation Facebook post

Fake?

Yes, we are dealing with a fake here. However, it's not the slap that's fake, but rather Chris Rock's alleged cheek padding.

The image, which purports to show Chris Rock standing on stage wearing a "protective pad," was taken by Brian Snyder for Reuters. There is no cheek pad visible
in the original ( HERE The photo has a size of 2,713 × 1,793px. This does not correspond to the mentioned 8K quality, where the image resolution is 7,680 x 4,320px.

A comparison of the original and altered images can HERE .
Apparently the image was edited for the alleged claim of staging. In the original picture you can see Chris Rock's stubble. In the circulating image, his skin is smooth and softened, which also indicates editing.

How a bad joke becomes an even worse joke

Chris Rock's wisecracks can be questioned since Jada Pinkett Smith suffers from alopecia areata. Your haircut is therefore not a fashionable style, but a way to conceal hair loss. Back in 2018, Jada Pinkett Smith talked about it in an interview ( HERE ).

Will Smith's reaction is currently being discussed everywhere. He is sharply criticized for using violence in his “protector role”.

But the claim that this was an agreed production between Rock and Smith is humbug.

Consequences for Smith

Will Smith was awarded the Oscar for Best Actor for his role in “King Richard” less than 45 minutes after Chris Rock slapped his face.

The Oscar Academy board met on Wednesday to initiate disciplinary proceedings against Smith for violating the code of conduct.
Possible consequences include a temporary ban from the Academy or even expulsion. He will probably not be stripped of his Oscar, as Whoopi Goldberg, who sits on the Academy board, said on the TV show “The View”.

Conclusion

Chris Rock didn't wear a cheek patch at the Oscars.
It can therefore be ruled out that Will Smith's slap was an agreement between him and the moderator Chris Rock.

The original image does not show a cheek pad, and other details in the photo now circulating indicate that it was retouched.
