As the Mainz online portal Merkurist reports, six activists were involved in the action. Four were actually stuck, two were just sitting mobile on the street and said they could have cleared the way for rescue operations at any time.
Klimakleber chose a particularly stable adhesive connection
At least one of the activists in this, in retrospect, very bizarre scenario chose a particularly stable adhesive connection. The 38-year-old chose a mixture of superglue and sand. It is not for nothing that sand is an important raw material in construction. Properly bound in the concrete, it ensures proper stability. This was also felt by the emergency services who wanted to clear the path again and clear the activists from the street.
With the methods used so far, the failure of the law enforcement forces was inevitable. Finally, road builders were called in. They used their asphalt expertise and their heavy equipment and quickly cut out a piece of road. The activist, along with his hand and the piece of asphalt stuck to it, were taken off the road and traffic was able to flow again.
The internet laughs, but the campaign gains reach
This action by the climate activists was a hit with the interested Twitter community, but Reddit also took action on it.
Here are some examples:
As expected, the fronts also became clear again. The climate activists in particular attract a lot of anger and aggression for their actions, even from those who fundamentally support the actual cause of climate protection. The radical nature of the actions such as obstructing road traffic or the mashed potato attacks on works of art, however, is rejected by many, and the activists themselves are called climate terrorists by some.
Road clear! And the hand? Still there?
Admittedly, the pictures of the hand with the stubborn superglue-sand mixture look wild. And many fears were also expressed online that the hand would probably not survive this action unscathed. Opponents made gloating statements that climate glue had exactly two chances to express their protest in this way...
The Mainz Merkurist did not rely on speculation, but called the Mainz group from the “Last Generation”. The activists' spokeswoman is amused by the reactions and is quoted as saying:
“When I spoke to him on the phone on Friday afternoon, the asphalt was already gone and his hand was still on.”

The activist did not suffer any injuries either. So an amputation is not in sight.
Final Thoughts
In the end, it remains to be said: regardless of whether you approve of this climate sticker campaign or not, it has given the climate activists of the “last generation” a lot of media reach.
And another thought is permitted: sand is now a very scarce resource. Together with cement and gravel, concrete is created, which is used to build all types of buildings. It is now recognized in the real estate industry that the demolition of buildings releases a lot of CO² that is bound in the building structure: keyword embedded carbon. Renovation is often the more climate-friendly option. Whether the analogy that the climate glue draws here with its action (sand + glue for a particularly stable connection) is really in the spirit of the climate activists remains to be seen...
