The claim
A video purportedly shows a NASA “cloud machine.”
Our conclusion
In the best case scenario, the machine actually creates clouds that also rain down - but the main purpose of the machine is to test Space Shuttle rocket boosters.
The distributed video is something special: It is not manipulated with video editing programs, but shows a real excerpt from a TV documentary series.
There is obviously a huge machine there that not only has a NASA logo, but actually actually creates a cloud. So does this mean NASA actually has a cloud machine? Not really…
The video
on Facebook as early as 2021 , and an account called “The Flat Earther” is currently sharing it on Twitter, which has over 55,000 followers and therefore a correspondingly large reach.
The description of the video: “ Climate change and global warming are fake. Geoengineering and weather changes are the government’s daily bread .” In the video, the NASA logo can be seen in the upper half, with the text “Artificial Cloud Machine” underneath.
The actual video with the “cloud machine” can be seen in the lower half. You can see and hear Jeremy Clarkson, presenter of the TV series “ Top Gear ”, which usually features interesting facts, stunts and news about cars.
Here is the important part of the video translated into German:
“Don’t worry if you can’t hear what I’m saying, I couldn’t even hear myself. It's the loudest sound imaginable, and as it turns out, the cleanest too. The most amazing thing is that the cloud up there created by the engine is just a mixture of hydrogen and oxygen. It's steam, and in about an hour someone in Mississippi will have wet laundry. It will actually rain. I told you. It's raining. Incredible. NASA is playing God. She makes her own weather.”
The video actually comes from an episode of “Top Gear” and the excerpt can also be seen on YouTube
What can actually be seen in the video
The title of the video reveals a lot more about what is actually being seen: a Space Shuttle Rocket Booster test. The description of the video says:
“Jeremy Clarkson travels to Mississippi, where NASA is testing the Space Shuttle's solid rocket boosters. They consume half a million gallons of fuel and generate the thrust needed to propel astronauts into space. They’re a bit loud too!”
The shuttle test actually creates a cloud of water vapor that causes rain. However, the purpose of the device is to test Space Shuttle rocket boosters, not to manipulate the weather.
The colleagues from Reuters wanted to know exactly what was happening and asked NASA. Calvin Lacy Thompson, head of intelligence at NASA's John C. Stennis Space Center , then stated:
“In an RS-25 engine test, liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen are mixed and ignited in the engine's combustion chamber, resulting in extremely high temperature (up to 3,320 degrees Celsius), very high velocity, and high pressure exhaust gases from the engine Exit the engine nozzle into the flame deflector of the test stand.
Hundreds of thousands of liters of water are injected into the flame arrester to cool the exhaust gases and ensure the protection of the flame arrester. When the hot exhaust gases mix with the water, steam is created, which rises from the flame deflector into the atmosphere and forms a cloud, which then cools. Depending on the temperature and humidity at the time of testing, this vapor cloud may condense into water and fall in a very limited local area. “
Conclusion
So it's not a fairly complex "cloud machine", even if it actually creates clouds under favorable conditions, but a device for testing Space Shuttle rocket boosters.
As a "cloud machine", the machinery would not be very effective and, above all, not inconspicuous: As can be clearly seen (and heard) in the video, NASA cleared an area of 125,000 acres (around 505 square kilometers, an area larger than Bremen ), as it creates such a loud noise that anyone in the area would be deaf.
In fact, with the hundreds of thousands of liters of water used in each test, it also creates clouds that even persist and produce rain when weather conditions are favorable. But the immense water consumption, the noise and the very limited range of clouds generated speak against using it as a “cloud machine” to manipulate the weather.

Just in time for the 53rd anniversary of the moon landing, a conspiracy story is resurfacing: Allegedly the moon landing in 1969 was a fake, and NASA even recently admitted this!
However, the source is full of false information. – NASA did not admit that the moon landing was fake!
