According to rumors currently (again) circulating, the beverage multinational has launched a large-scale recall campaign for its product due to alleged health risks. Entire batches are contaminated by a parasite that causes serious health damage.
The original report dates from April 2016 and can be traced back to the News 4 :
Coca-Cola Recalls Dasani Water After Clear Parasite Worm Was Found In Bottles Across US
“If you purchase/drink Dasani water you might want to listen up. There has been a major recall by the Coca-Cola company today after several thousand bottles of their drinking water was found to be contaminated with a parasite. It has sent several hundred people to the hospital and is responsible for parasitic symptoms such as fever, rash, vomiting and stomach bloating.
Even though the majority of the impurities have admittedly been removed from Dasani water, and minerals added back in, these parasites have somehow worked their way into their supposedly “clean” water system which has been passed on to the consumer. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has shut down the manufacturing facility and issued a major recall on the brand. Don't drink this water! The FDA is recommending that if you have no choice but to consume the water, you MUST boil the water first to kill the parasite. Otherwise, it will host itself in your stomach lining and intestines and breed offsprings.”
“If you buy or drink Dasani Water, you should listen up now: Today the Coca-Cola Group announced a large-scale product recall after parasite infestation was found in several thousand bottles of their drinking water. This causes a number of symptoms that occur with a parasite infection, including fever, eczema, vomiting and stomach bleeding. Several hundred people are in inpatient treatment.
Although much of the contamination has been demonstrably removed and the minerals have been added back, the parasites have found their way into the supposedly “pure” production chain, which is then sold. The FDA (“Food and Drug Administration”) has closed the production facilities and recalled the brand on a large scale. Don't drink this water! If consumption cannot be avoided, the FDA recommends boiling the water first to kill the parasite. Otherwise it settles in your digestive tract, where it begins to multiply. (Editor's translation)

According to an Associated Press article in the Denverpost dated January 24, 2017, "The FDA has no information about any outbreaks of illness associated with Dasani Water, nor is it working with the company to initiate a recall."
“The Food and Drug Administration said it is not aware of any current recalls or disease outbreaks associated with Dasani water, and that it is not working with the company on any recall of the product.” [6]
Coca-Cola has not launched a recall campaign for Dasani and has assured that the water is safe to consume, although a false report alleges contamination with a parasite. The article published online claims that a “transparent parasitic worm” has been identified widely and is responsible for several hundred hospitalizations.
Coca-Cola denies that there has been a recall...” (Editor’s translation)
Almost simultaneously, and Hoaxslayer.net reported extensively on the hoax. The company itself also immediately published a counter statement on its website:
“Various on-line “reports” of a water recall targeting our Dasani® brand are being circulated (“shared”) via social platforms, emails and even word-of-mouth. The article, credited as originating from a “news” source, surfaced on a website suggesting to “consume healthy food…”
News of an alleged recall regarding our “Dasani” brand is currently being spread through various online “reports”, social media platforms, emails and word of mouth. The report, which purported to come from a “news source,” appeared on a website purporting to be about healthy eating….”
Conclusion: The horror story of the water worm is fictitious.
“News4ktla” is a well-known fake news site that, among other things, has had the dubious honor of being named “ Most Unethical Website of the Month ” [ 8 The presence is well known for its false reports . [ 7 ], [ 8 ], [ 10 ]. From here the story has spread across the internet and is being shared and posted diligently.
Although detailed counter-statements can be found in many places on the Internet, they reappear with regularity and unsettle consumers.
The alleged “parasite” (–> photo) turned out to be Leptocephalus , the larva of the so-called glass eel. [ 4 ] This lives completely unparasitically in the sea and, despite the appropriate “look”, has no affinity for soft drinks or human intestines.
