The chance of an almost free coffee machine or a fully automatic coffee machine from DeLonghi may sound tempting. Criminals are offering exactly that in a Facebook posting on the “warehouse for coffee machines” page, reports our cooperation partner Watchlist Internet . After answering three questions from MediaMarkt, you should be able to get a coffee machine for just 1.95 euros. However, paying the small amount of money does not lead to receiving the coffee machine, but rather to a subscription trap that costs you 63 euros per month.

If you click on the posting, you will be redirected to a website designed by MediaMarkt. However, the site has nothing to do with the real website mediamarkt.at, but was simply copied by criminals. You can see this, for example, by the web address “pibonpe.info” at the top of the image:

Unlike the Facebook posting, it is claimed here that the campaign would take place because of numerous branch closures. So that you have a chance of getting the coffee machine, you should answer a few short questions about coffee machines and MediaMarkt at this point and then you will end up on the following page:

You should click on one of the gift boxes here and try your luck. The third box you open actually contains your coffee machine, which you should claim in the following steps by paying a small amount.

Again you will be redirected to another website. This time you end up on “encryptfast.com” and again not on a real MediaMarkt website. Below the web address and above the noticeably large font for the coffee machine, you can read a tiny text that reveals for the first time what the criminals are actually after. It is a hidden cost notice for a monthly subscription to Ubuth Limited from Ireland. This is as follows:
You can take part in the skill game for a De'Longhi Magnifica S for free by clicking here. Alternatively, you can purchase yourgamebuilder.com without participating in the skill game by clicking here. If you participate through this campaign, you will take part in the game of skill and purchase a 3-day trial version (€ 2.00) for yourgamebuilder.com. After the trial, you will be charged a membership fee of (€63.00) every 30 days. yourgamebuilder.com does not need to be purchased to participate in the skill game or to win the game. A purchase does not increase your chances of winning the skill game. This campaign expires on 30/06/2023.
You should therefore be debited 63 euros per month if you pay the amount via your credit card as requested.
Attention: The process is not always exactly the same!
The websites to which the fake postings on Facebook lead can change slightly from time to time. In the current case, those affected report to us monthly costs of 67 euros instead of 63 euros. Sometimes they only charge 1 euro instead of 1.95 euros. For other people, a payment request for the small amount comes later via SMS messages.
What can you do if you have been a victim?
If you have already paid, proceed as follows:
- Find contact details for the fraudulent provider. For example, via your credit card charges or your browser history.
- Contact the fraudulent subscription provider and request immediate cancellation and refund of any amounts charged.
- Dubious providers often do not comply with these requests, which is why you must contact your credit card provider. Request a refund of all amounts that you have not released, as these must be refunded by your payment service provider in accordance with Section 67 of the Payment Services Act 2018.
- It is probably necessary to block your credit card to avoid further debits.
- Report the Facebook profile and corresponding postings to Facebook.
Contact the Ombudsman Office for payment problems
In the case of unjustified credit card debits, as in this case, contacting the ombudsman's office for payment problems at the Ministry of Social Affairs may be helpful. Here you will find the relevant contact details for the ombudsman's office for payment problems .
