It may look cute - but it's not. The sales trend for brightly colored chicks has been around since 2012.

Chicks are colorfully colored en masse and ultimately sold

The chicks are colored and sold in various ways.
The trend comes from Asia and was particularly hotly debated in 2012.

We once again received inquiries about a video showing how chicks are dyed in a vat. Strictly speaking, it's about the following tweet:

This is not cool at all.. This is ANIMAL CRUELTY.

Baby chicks thrown into buckets and DYED bright colors – a disgusting way to boost Easter sales

Please don't support these cruel practices. Do not buy this for you or your children.

The fact check

Yes, the video in the original tweet actually shows a practice that has been used for years, especially in Asia. ( we reported )

It represents a lucrative source of income and the colorful chicks are extremely popular with children - especially at Easter. The information in the video about the coloring process is correct: either the color is injected directly into the hatched egg, the animals are partially sprayed or the whole thing is dipped into the paint bucket. Unfortunately, the trend for brightly colored chicks also spread to Europe and the USA.

As early as 2012, animal rights activists spoke out against dyeing and selling the colorful chicks. If the sold animal is taken home, people quickly realize that an apartment is not a suitable environment for a chicken. At the latest when the chicks change their feathers for the first time and the colorful splendor has disappeared, they are all too happy to simply be thrown away.

 Conclusion

Unfortunately, this trend actually exists. Animal protection organizations repeatedly speak out against this and call for a ban on dyeing and selling the chicks.

In addition, the purchase of an animal should be carefully considered - regardless of its shape or color. Animals are not toys that can be played with for a while and then simply thrown away or left behind.

If you cannot accept responsibility for the gift of life, you should only get one type of animal - namely a stuffed animal.
