It was a normal evening when a member of our Facebook group contacted me with an unexpected message: “Hi, since when can comments be shared? Surely this is a mistake? Greetings Frank!

Astonished, I logged in the next morning, it was Saturday, August 19th, 2023, and searched the group posts. And sure enough, there he was! A share link on some comments that wasn't visible the day before. This link did not appear in all groups, and when clicked, a "Send Tweet" link appeared. Not WhatsApp, not Instagram, but Twitter. And above all: Why doesn't Zuckerberg care that Twitter is no longer called Twitter but "X"? Why?

The comment – “Share” link: A selective phenomenon

It seems like this mysterious link isn't ubiquitous. While some can see it in their comments in certain groups, for others it remains completely invisible. Means: This new function is not related to the respective GROUP, but rather to the private profile of each individual user. Is it a test run by Facebook? A technical bug? Or is there more to it? One inevitably wonders what criterion Facebook sets for this and what lies behind it.

Why in some groups and not in profiles? And why Twitter?

You can share comments as follows:

  • Send to someone on Facebook Messenger
  • via Twitter or just
  • copy the

The Twitter puzzle: strategy or coincidence?

Well, it would be easy to argue that sharing on Twitter is simply one of the many options that Facebook offers. But here's the strange point: why just Twitter? Zuckerberg and Musk aren't necessarily the best of friends, but it seems like one wants to step on the other's toes a little. Or perhaps there is a hidden strategy that we cannot yet detect? And most importantly: Why does Zuckerberg ignore the fact that Twitter is now called “X” and changed the logo?

The Psychology Behind “Sharing”: From Private to Public

From status posts to comments, sharing content has changed. Comments have historically tended to be private, limited to the specific conversation. Now we have the opportunity to make these thoughts, these moments, public. But what does this mean for our digital privacy? And what psychological impact does this little link have on our interactions and behavior?

The user perspective: observations and opinions

Some members of our group have seen this share link, others have not. Reactions range from curiosity to complete indifference. Some are wondering whether they should be more careful with their comments now, while others see the ability to share as an opportunity to make their opinions and ideas available to a wider audience.

Twitter and Facebook: a new chapter in competition?

One has to ask: Is this the beginning of a new era of collaboration between Twitter and Facebook? Or is it simply a coincidence that the two platforms are now linked in this way? It could be a strategic decision by Zuckerberg to blur the boundaries between platforms, or perhaps a subtle attempt to lure Twitter users back to Facebook.

Conclusion : The phenomenon of “sharing” Facebook comments may seem confusing and insignificant at first glance. But in the fast-paced world of social media, even the smallest change can make big waves and have far-reaching consequences. The sudden appearance of this link in certain groups and the strange association with Twitter raise many questions that still need to be answered. However, one thing is certain: the social media landscape is constantly changing and we should always be ready to adapt, learn and think critically. And most importantly, will the “Share Comments” feature be extended to all groups and profiles?
