That’s why the motto “Think first – then click” is so important!
The BSI for Citizens informs in its article “ Common Sense ” how important it is to always be sensible online:
Technical security gaps represent only part of the risks when surfing the Internet. Where attackers cannot get anywhere thanks to current software and systems, firewalls and virus scanners, they try to persuade users to install malware or hand over sensitive data in other ways. Similar to door-to-door fraud, attackers on the Internet also rely on faking a personal relationship with the victim or making promises of profit. Many other variants of this approach, known as social engineering, are conceivable and are used. In some cases, indirect contact is also chosen through friends of the actual victim.
Do not blindly trust reports, messages and requests. Don't click on every offer, no matter how tempting it sounds. Because nothing is free on the Internet either. Many providers who entice you with prices and rewards only want your data. Some may later try to resell your data or obtain additional data from you using special malware. If you have doubts about the integrity of a website, look for a telephone number in the legal notice and get an impression of the situation by telephone. If you receive strange messages from friends, call them and ask whether the message really comes from the person you know. Be alert and careful.
