The claim

An alleged screenshot of an Instagram post from the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp Memorial is intended to prove that the foundation provides two barracks for Ukrainian refugees.

Our conclusion

The screenshot was clearly faked, the foundation will take legal action against the fake.

The screenshot of a fake Instagram post from the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp Memorial was first shared on a Telegram channel and has since spread on social networks: Apparently the memorial provided two barracks on the camp site for Ukrainian refugees and marked the barracks with “Welcome Home.” Banners provided.

This fake screenshot is:

The fake Instagram post is said to say:

“The administration of the Sachsenhausen museum complex has decided to provide assistance in this difficult time for the Ukrainian people! We are already taking in the refugees arriving in Berlin.”

The post never existed!

Fortunately, there are always ways to check whether deleted articles or posts ever existed, for example with the Internet Archive Wayback Machine , Google Cache or Archive Today . But this post could not be found using any of the methods, neither on Instagram nor on Facebook.

The creator of the fake is probably from Russia

Not only did the screenshot first appear in a Telegram group called “ Russian Humor ,” but the Cyrillic characters in the screenshot above strongly suggest that the creator of the fake screenshot either lives in Russia or is from Russia.

The photo was faked and comes from a blog

The photo in the fake Instagram post is also fake: Although the barracks of the Sachsenhausen concentration camp memorial can actually be seen, the photo comes from a blog and the banners were added using an image editing program.

MIMIKAMA
Original and fake, easily recognizable by the cloud formations

It's better not to share the fake, because you risk criminal charges!

The operators of the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp Memorial understandably don't find the "Russian humor" particularly funny: The foundation will take legal action against the forgery, as they in a tweet and on Instagram :

Attention: If the fake screenshot is classified as criminally relevant, all users who share the fake screenshot will also be liable to prosecution!

Also interesting:

A screenshot of an alleged BILD article is intended to prove that Baerbock is threatening Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov: She wants to trigger a famine in Germany and then blame Russia for it.
Is it so difficult to take a closer look? – No, Baerbock is not planning a famine in Germany!
