Practical feature in the latest iOS version
This is probably what many users have been waiting for. A new WhatsApp function should make it possible to better control data consumption. With iOS version 2.20.10, minor design adjustments were made, as you can read in the WhatsApp changelog.
Reduced data consumption thanks to new feature
But there is also another function that allows users to better control data consumption on WhatsApp. In the settings under “Data and storage usage” you can activate “Reduced data consumption” to prevent media from being downloaded automatically. This way you control and reduce data consumption.

The automatic download of media sucks up the data volume, especially if it also happens over the mobile network.
WhatsApp for iOS 2.20.10 is live now.

Also relevant for WhatsApp calls
The reduced consumption is also important for calls via WhatsApp. If you want to continue to allow automatic media downloads, you should just make sure that “Reduced data consumption” is not active in the app.
