In recent days, an increasing number of cases have been reported to the police in which fraudsters are trying to steal money from relatives by faking corona illness.

Corona scam: Variant of shock calls

The callers pretended to be sons or grandsons. They each stated that they were in the hospital and that they were suffering from a particularly dangerous corona variant. Because special medication was required for treatment, they asked for urgent financial support.

The fact that the supposedly seriously ill relatives also asked for gold, watches or jewelry is a sure sign that fraudsters are at work here.

What to do?

In such cases, do not allow yourself to be taken by surprise and put under pressure. Just like with shock calls in which a serious accident is simulated, the scammers want to create a situation in which you can no longer think clearly out of concern for your relatives. In such cases, simply hang up and inform the police. And inform your relatives, especially the older ones, about this lousy scam
