Corona virus scam! In three cases, fraudsters tried to get cash by claiming to have coronavirus.
Cases 1 and 2: Two Oberhaveler women aged 82 and 67 received telephone calls on February 27, 2020. In both cases, a man posed as a supposed grandson who was currently being treated for coronavirus and needed money for it.
In both cases, 100,000 euros were demanded. Both women did not respond to the demands, ended the conversations and filed a criminal complaint. The man on the phone is said to have spoken clearly and in standard German and sounded a bit hoarse.

Case 3: At around 4:45 p.m., the daughter-in-law of an 85-year-old German from Mühlenbecker Land informed the police that the senior citizen was on the way to the bank to withdraw money. During the course of the day, the man was first called by his supposed son, who was being treated for an infection with the corona virus. A short time later, a second man called who said he was a senior doctor at a hospital. He stated that he needed 22,000 euros for his son's treatment , whereupon the man withdrew the money.
In collaboration with our Berlin colleagues, the man was found before the money was handed over. He then deposited the money back into his account and filed a criminal complaint for attempted fraud.
