The Federal Ministry of the Interior warns of criminal consequences for spreading fake news.
On March 13, 2020, a complaint was filed against two people from Tennengau (Salzburg), aged 33 and 35, for spreading false reports regarding the coronavirus. The suspects created and published a self-made photo and spread it with fake news via a news service. This picture was also published on a social media channel in a very short time. Shortly after the complaint was filed, the Tennengauers were identified as suspects in the course of the investigation and reported to the public prosecutor's office.
