The coronavirus is now affecting our everyday lives, such as shopping or withdrawing money. What is the best way to protect yourself from the virus?

Coronavirus: How do I protect myself in everyday life? – The most important thing at the beginning:

Transmission occurs through droplet infection, so there are a few things you can do to prevent infection. First and foremost is still washing your hands.

Transmission by droplet infection

The coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 is transmitted primarily through droplet infection. When an infected person coughs, sneezes or speaks, droplets containing pathogens are released into the air. Other people can breathe them in.

It is also possible - but less likely - that SARS-CoV-2 can be transmitted via smear infection. For example, if an infected person shakes someone's hand, they can transmit the virus.

Washing your hands is essential

Washing your hands regularly and thoroughly as well as sneezing and coughing into your elbow are the most important measures to avoid infection with the new coronavirus.
Viruses can also stick to everyday objects, handles, banknotes and ATM buttons. Therefore, always wash your hands after withdrawing or paying with cash.

Face mask and gloves useful?

A face mask can only reduce the number of pathogens that an infected person expels. It is not suitable as protection against infection.

Wearing gloves doesn't make sense either. Although gloves can prevent viruses adhering to surfaces from reaching your hands, you should not touch your face with the gloves afterwards.

If you wash your hands thoroughly and don't touch your face beforehand, this will protect you at least as well against the new coronavirus.
