The claim
The packaging of an antigen test kit is intended to prove that COVID-19 and flu are the same disease, as both terms can be read on the packaging.
Our conclusion
The testing device has two sample wells, one for COVID-19, one for flu. This makes it easier for sick people to test whether they have COVID-19 or “just” the flu.
It would be funny if it weren't so sad: the image of packaging alone leads even supposedly smart people to jump into their own narrative and claim that COVID-19 and the flu are the same diseases, because after all, they are yes next to each other on a fairly new packaging of an antigen test kit.
However, in the packaging there is not just one sample well in the test device, but two - there are two different test kits in one device!
The claim
A tweet with a photo of the Antigen Test Kit packaging was liked and shared thousands of times and spread it :

" No! Who would have thought!! ", the lawyer comments on the photo in English, additionally adding the hashtag "covinfluena" to clarify his opinion that COVID-19 and influenza (flu) are the same disease.

A simple look at the product page would have been enough
Now we know that certain people at least have the ability to open the Google search engine and enter search terms there, keyword “ Google it yourself ”, as soon as you ask for sources. In this case, this would have been advisable in order not to make nonsense claims, because you would quickly come across the homepage of the company “Fanttest” and the product in the photo (see HERE ).
If you look closely, you will also see a special feature in the product photo: there are two sample wells in the test device:

There is also a description of how to use the test kit below on the same page:

- On the left side of the test device is the sample well for the COVID-19 test, labeled C for COVID-19 and T for test strips
- On the right side of the test device is the sample well for the flu test, labeled A for Influenza A, B for Influenza B and C for Control
So you take a swab and then drip the liquid into two different sample wells to determine whether you have COVID-19 or “just” the flu. You can also download the complete package insert HERE (PDF file).
The symptoms are similar, but the disease is not the same!
COVID-19 and the flu are both contagious respiratory diseases with similar symptoms. But that's it, because the causative agents of the diseases are two completely different viruses: SARS-CoV-2 causes COVID-19, influenza viruses cause the flu.
- Influenza
There are four types of flu viruses : A, B, C, and D. Influenza A and B viruses cause seasonal disease epidemics almost every winter, also known as flu season. While influenza A viruses even cause flu pandemics, infections with the influenza C virus usually only cause mild illness. Influenza D viruses are only known to occur in cattle.
Flu symptoms include fever, chills, headache, persistent and dry cough, muscle and joint pain, severe malaise, sore throat and runny nose. In most cases, a person can recover. However, complications such as pneumonia, myocarditis, encephalitis, myositis and multi-organ failure may occur. In rare cases it can even be fatal.
- COVID-19
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. In most cases, it can cause mild to moderate respiratory illness and patients recover without requiring any special treatment. However, some people, especially the elderly or those with comorbidities, may experience serious illness that requires medical treatment.
The flu symptoms mentioned above can also occur with COVID-19, but the biggest difference is the speed of progression:
While flu symptoms usually appear within a few hours, symptoms with COVID-19 worsen much more slowly, sometimes over days. Specific symptoms such as anosmia (lack of smell) and ageusia (lack of taste) only occur with COVID-19, but a stuffy nose means you can't taste or smell much even with the flu.
However, since the pace of progression can be very variable, COVID-19 symptoms can sometimes develop quickly and flu symptoms only slowly, so there is always a little uncertainty - and that is exactly why this test kit was developed. However, only a virus test in the laboratory can provide absolute certainty.
Conclusion
" It's almost the same symptoms, so COVID-19 is just the flu " is about as sensible as saying that fire-eating is as harmless as eating a hot pepper: both burn your mouth, but one of them is far more dangerous than the other.
In any case, the packaging of the antigen test kit is not even a hint of proof that COVID-19 and the flu are the same disease - but the people who disseminated the photo would have had to invest a few minutes in a simple Google search to find this out.
