Chain letter about COVID-19: Be careful with advice and recommendations via WhatsApp, Facebook and CO. Many of these turn out to be unproven claims.
WhatsApp chain letter about self-testing and drinking technology for coronavirus / COVID-19: A chain letter gives advice from supposed doctors.
The recommendations do not appear from public authorities.
It is this WhatsApp message:
This is how people in Canada are informed.
The new NCP coronavirus may not show signs of infection for many days, so how can you know if you are infected?
Latest information says the incubation period can be up to 20 days before symptoms of COVID 19 become visible. When a person has a fever and/or cough and goes to the hospital, the lungs are usually 50% fibrous and it is quite late!
The experts from Taiwan offer a simple self-check that we can do every morning;
Take a deep breath and hold your breath for more than 10 seconds. If you do the exam successfully with no cough, no discomfort, no bloating or tightness, etc., it proves that there is no fibrosis in the lungs, which basically indicates no infection.
During critical times, please perform a self-test every morning in an environment with clean air!
EXCELLENT ADVICE from Japanese doctors treating COVID-19 cases.
Everyone should ensure that your mouth and throat are moist and never dry.
Take a few sips of water at least every 15 minutes.
WHY ?
Even if the virus gets into your mouth...drinking water or other liquids flushes it down your esophagus and into your stomach.
Once there, stomach acid kills the virus.
If you don't drink enough water regularly... the virus can get into your windpipe and lungs.
This is dangerous.
Please send this information to your family, friends and everyone you know.

The fact check
It's a mix of truisms and unproven claims. the Portuguese website boatos.org , the recommendations are incorrect.
Both the self-test, in which you should hold your breath for more than 10 seconds, and the advice to drink a few sips of water every 15 minutes, do not appear in the brochures from the WHO or the Brazilian Ministry of Health . The most important prevention recommendations here are limited to hygiene and, if coronavirus / COVID-19 is suspected, visiting medical authorities or the hospital.

The Taiwan FactCheck Center states that the self-test is an inadequate method to detect infection with SARS-CoV-2 or pulmonary fibrosis and points out that although the new coronavirus is causing concern worldwide, it does not have a high mortality rate. The disease is just as deadly as the common flu. Specific tests are also required to diagnose pulmonary fibrosis. According to the Taiwan FactCheck Center, the method of self-testing is unknown to local doctors.
Boatos.org additionally checked with local doctors, who confirmed that “it is impossible not to show symptoms of fibrosis. It is also wrong to say that the lungs are already 50% fibrotic in the event of signs of COVID-19.
AFP Fact Check already dispelled the “drink water every 15 minutes” rumor Again, there is no evidence that health authorities recommend that drinking water every 15 minutes prevents infection with the new coronavirus.
Conclusion:
There are no official sources that confirm that doctors actually recommend self-testing and drinking water every 15 minutes. It is a chain letter that works more or less with truisms and unproven claims.
