Falling numbers of COVID-19 diseases

As of today, there is no longer a requirement to wear a mask on local public transport in Saxony-Anhalt, and in Bavaria you will no longer have to wear a mask on buses and trains from Saturday. Schleswig-Holstein is also discussing this step. Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Schleswig-Holstein, Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate had also abolished the isolation requirement for those infected with corona.

The number of corona cases is currently falling. It is often referred to as a “mild” course of the disease. The first symptoms of a less severe COVID illness are similar to those of a cold: cough, runny nose, scratchy throat and hoarseness may occur. A limited sense of smell and taste, fever, headaches and body aches as well as a general feeling of illness are also side effects.

Those affected occasionally complain of gastrointestinal problems, such as: B. Nausea, vomiting or abdominal pain. Overall, the omicron variant is more likely to cause symptoms that occur in the throat and throat. Most mild illnesses go away after about two weeks.

What to do if you are sick?

Anyone who has been infected with the coronavirus should stay at home and try to avoid contact with family members if possible. This prevents them from becoming infected. A visit to the doctor is usually not absolutely necessary for those under the age of sixty and without previous illnesses. Rest, plenty of sleep, healthy food and enough fluids in the form of water or unsweetened tea help you get healthy again.

There are currently no medications that directly help against mild COVID disease. However, you can alleviate the symptoms with various means: Here, for example: B. Lozenges for sore throats, fever-reducing agents or cold ointments and solutions for inhalation.

When should you go to the doctor?

A COVID-19 illness can also take a serious course. The symptoms usually worsen from the fourth or fifth day of illness. If severe symptoms last longer than five days or even get worse, you should contact your family doctor. Rising fever and breathing problems in particular require clarification. Anyone over the age of sixty or with a previous illness should contact their doctor if they test positive for the virus. If necessary, medication can then be prescribed to prevent a severe course.

Are there long-term consequences of mild cases?

A COVID-19 illness often clears up without any further complications. However, in some cases long-term consequences can occur. This also applies to mild cases. If the symptoms of the illness last longer than four weeks or recur even though the illness has already been overcome, this is referred to as Long COVID.
