Unknown people in Kaiserslautern made a bad joke.
Coronavirus fake news: They spread a fake article from “tagesschau.de” via social media. The article stated that Kaiserslautern was the first confirmed case of a coronavirus infection in Rhineland-Palatinate. According to the fake report, the pathogen is said to have been introduced to a company in Kaiserslautern via goods delivered from China.
Report to the police!
The managing director of the company concerned filed a police report on Tuesday morning. He reported that the fake news was now having an impact on the company's production processes. Employees, customers and suppliers are unsettled and would avoid the company premises.
As the responsible health authority in Kaiserslautern has now announced, the report is false information. There are still no known cases of the coronavirus in Kaiserslautern.

The police are investigating the feigning of a common danger and harassment of the general public and warn against spreading this report further.
On Tuesday afternoon (February 25, 2020), police investigations revealed evidence that a 27-year-old from Kaiserslautern was involved in the crime. While discussions were taking place over the telephone with the managing director of the company concerned, the accused appeared at the company and asked for a conversation.
When the officers arrived, he admitted that he had made the fake report on Monday for fun. He wanted to impress his girlfriend with it. On Tuesday he showed the fake “tagesschau.de” page to a friend. According to current findings, the 28-year-old man took a photo of the false report from his friend's cell phone and in turn sent the fake news to other people.
The two were shocked by how quickly the false report spread on social media and by the impact of their ill-advised action.
