A few days ago, a 33-year-old from Schifferstadt met a supposed woman on a dating app, and they then communicated via a messaging app.
Cryptocurrency trap
During the course of the conversation, the stranger offered the young man the opportunity to invest money in cryptocurrency for him at a very profitable rate. The man agreed to this and received a link from the fraudster to an - obviously fake - browser wallet (online wallet), where he ultimately invested a low four-digit euro amount.
Man loses almost five-figure sum for alleged investment advice
After just a few days, his “investment advisor” informed him that his stake had increased approximately fifteen-fold and that he now only had to pay a withdrawal fee of 10% of the sum earned in order to get his winnings, which made the young man suspicious. When he expressed his concerns to the support of the alleged wallet and his messaging partner, it was explained to him that several lawyers would take legal action against him. The injured party then began researching online and discovered that he had obviously fallen victim to a scam.
The police therefore strongly advise against dubious investments , especially those that are carried out exclusively via messaging services or links with unknown people and there is no personal contact.
