Accordingly, the Hamburg Main Customs Office is currently receiving calls several times a day from citizens who want to receive information about the news. The payment requests revolve around sales tax taxes that are supposed to have been paid, which are said to have become due as part of a win or cash transfer.
Hamburg Main Customs Office warns against false letters
The messages supposedly come from the main customs office in Hamburg, but also partly from the customs office or main customs office in Frankfurt am Main. They all have a customs logo on them to mislead recipients about their authenticity.
The letters first quote the sales tax laws and then demand over EUR 5,000 in sales tax for “ATR papers”. The message also contains a link that supposedly leads to a detailed invoice. Reference is also made to alleged agreements with a law firm.
“These types of messages are neither messages from customs nor from the law firm, but rather a scam. After being forwarded via the link, the recipients should make transfers or reveal their bank details.”
Press spokeswoman Kristina Severon
What should you do if you receive such a message?
If you receive such a message, you should simply delete it.
Customs never contacts citizens in this way, sending them links or asking them to pay. In addition, when communicating with authorities, sufficient time is always allowed for, if necessary, to find out about the authenticity of letters and communications.
Scam claiming customs duties
In this context, we would like to once again point out the scam with alleged fees for packages from abroad.
These payment requests, allegedly in the name of parcel service providers, also attempt to entice the recipient to provide their bank details by clicking on a link. This scam has already been pointed out in several press releases. We also reported about this scam HERE
