Over the past six months, CPR documented:
- More than 1,500 weekly cyberattacks on every corporate network in Ukraine, which is higher than the global average (1124 weekly attacks) and higher than Russia (1434 weekly attacks).
- A 25 percent increase in average weekly cyberattacks on corporate networks in Ukraine compared to the year before the conflict, while the increase was 0.1 percent globally and 13 percent in Russia.
Cyber attacks almost doubled
The conflict has also affected the government and military sectors in Ukraine: attacks have almost doubled compared to before the start of the war (+112 percent). This increase is significantly higher compared to Russia (-8 percent) and other regions.
Sergey Shykevich, Threat Intelligence Group Manager at Check Point Software, classifies the observations:
“The most astonishing statistic is the 112 percent increase in cyberattacks on the government and military sectors in Ukraine, while the same sector in Russia fell by 8 percent. While Russia is not completely cut off from the Internet, government and military networks and websites have taken various measures to restrict access to their resources from outside Russia, making some attacks more difficult to carry out.”
Sergey Shykevich
Post-conflict, these APT groups will direct their newly acquired expertise at new targets, unleashing a tsunami of cyberattacks around the world. This is suggested by the frequency and intensity of the attacks on NATO partners and on the countries that help Ukraine. This conflict has resulted in cyber activities changing warfare forever.
