Metro confirmed on its website the partial failure of its IT infrastructure as a result of a cyber attack. For this reason, disruptions and delays may occur. Metro says:
IT security incident at METRO
“METRO/MAKRO is currently experiencing a partial IT infrastructure failure in several technical services. METRO's IT team, together with external experts, immediately launched a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the service interruption. The latest results of the analysis confirm a cyber attack on the METRO systems as the cause of the IT infrastructure failure. METRO AG has informed all relevant authorities about the incident and will of course cooperate with them in every possible way.
During the operation of the METRO stores and the regular availability of the services, disruptions and delays may occur. Teams in markets quickly set up offline systems to process payments. Online orders via the web app and the online store are being processed, but individual delays may occur here too.
We will continue to intensively analyze and monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.
METRO sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience the incident causes to customers and business partners. “
Not only Germany affected
Not only Metro Germany is affected by the incident, but also the branch in Austria and France are said to have had outages!
