The Interior Ministry has confirmed that there have been cyber attacks on the websites of the Bundestag, the police and critical infrastructure facilities in Germany in recent days. However, according to the ministry, these attacks were “largely repelled” and had “no serious impact.”

DDoS attacks on various websites

According to a ministry spokesman, the latest cyber attacks announced by the Russian hacker group Killnet primarily affected airport websites. Portals in the financial sector as well as in the federal and state administration were also attacked. The German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) announced that these were DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks. This involves sending a large number of requests to a website in order to overload or bring it down.
