Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, companies such as Enercon and Nordex have been affected by cyber attacks. An attack on another German wind power company has now become known.

The Bremen company “Deutsche Windtechnik” is responsible for the maintenance, monitoring and safety of wind farms. A cyber attack on their IT systems was discovered here on the night of April 11th to 12th. The company then shut down all systems. The connections to all external systems, including those to all wind turbines, were also interrupted.

Investigations revealed that it was a “targeted professional hacker attack.” The systems themselves were not affected by the cyber attack, and customers do not have to fear any danger.

Press release from April 13th: Cyber attack on Deutsche Windtechnik

On the night of April 11th to 12th, Deutsche Windtechnik discovered an external cyber attack on its IT systems. For security reasons, all systems were then shut down and connections to all external systems were cut. Accordingly, we are currently not available via email. Based on our current knowledge, we assume that wind turbines are not affected by the attack.

All systems are currently being checked in a secure environment by internal and external IT experts brought in by us. Once the review is complete and we ensure the incident is contained, the systems will be restarted.

As soon as new findings become available, Deutsche Windtechnik will provide information here.

Update April 14, 2022
After intensive investigation by IT experts and forensic experts, we confirm a targeted professional hacker attack.

Immediately after the attack was discovered, all remote data monitoring connections to the wind turbines (WEA) were switched off for security reasons. These are now active again and we confirm that no wind turbines were affected by the attack. There is no danger for our customers and operational business can continue with small restrictions.
