The claim

An authentic-looking photo shows the arrest of the Dalai Lama by the police.

Our conclusion

However, the image was created by an artificial intelligence. The Dalai Lama was not arrested.

A photo was shared on Twitter that shows the Dalai Lama being arrested - surrounded by police officers. The text of the post simply read “Good morning” / “Guten Morgen”, so there was no further information about this picture.

Given the timing, many people probably linked this alleged incident to the previous scandal caused by a video in which the Dalai Lama asked a boy if he would like to suck his tongue. – We reported HERE .

Shortly afterwards, this photo appeared on Twitter, which is said to show the alleged arrest of the Tibetan spiritual leader.

Quietly, quietly and secretly?

Some users would consider an arrest after the Dalai Lama's faux pas to be fair, as this post shows, for example:

“The Dalai Lama should be arrested immediately and charged with sexual assault of a minor!”

But if this had been the case, one can and must assume that the media would have reported on such an incident. Should the arrest of a world-famous person, who filled headlines around the world days before, have taken place quietly and secretly? – We think that is very unlikely.

The Dalai Lama's Twitter page also contains posts after the alleged arrest.

So where did this photo come from?

Several pictures of the Dalai Lama

Twitter user “Tianxiashunv,” who posted the image of the arrest, also shared other images of the Dalai Lama. Here, for example, is one in which he kisses US President Joe Biden on the lips.

Here, too, the question arises as to why we hadn't read or heard anything about it in the media. Was there a meeting between the US President and the Tibetan leader?

AI again

What we currently have to expect again and again are images created by artificial intelligence. – Here are some examples from the recent past:

The topic of arrest already existed with Donald Trump, where AI-generated images were also used ( HERE ). Recently, pictures of Julian Assange were shared on the Internet, supposedly showing him in a weakened state in prison ( HERE ). Pope Francis' AI image went viral ( HERE ). The photo of a snake cat also caused uncertainty, but it was also created by artificial intelligence ( HERE ).

The same applies to the image of the Dalai Lama's arrest. On Twitter, a note will now appear below the photo pointing to user information stating that this is an “AI generated image”.

The user herself also confirmed that artificial intelligence was involved here: “Yes, that’s AI” / “Yes, that’s AI”

Telltale signs in the picture are again the extremely smooth skin, pores cannot be seen. Or the hands on the left in the picture, which don't quite correspond to the natural anatomy.

We can still tell from such discrepancies or abnormalities in AI-generated images that they are not real photos. However, since the various artificial intelligences are constantly developing, we must assume that recognizing AI images will become increasingly difficult.

Conclusion

Rating: FALSE

The Dalai Lama was not arrested.

The image of his alleged arrest is an AI-generated work. It's not a real photo.
