The analysis app Dasta monitors and logs the activities of WhatsApp accounts.

That sounds unpleasant: With the help of the Dasta app you can be monitored WhatsApp These observations can be used to evaluate the activity of an account.

But what exactly is Dasta? Dasta is a tracker that logs the activities of accounts on messengers. At the end, you can use this data to see when the account was active, when “bedtime” was, and which status messages were posted.

The problem: The app itself doesn't do anything illegal. The app “only” monitors the information that is publicly transmitted via WhatsApp as soon as a participant’s phone number is known. Dasta is just a practical tool that takes over the tedious collection work.

In this respect, the data gap lies with WhatsApp itself, for example. Because you must not forget:

Whatsapp users who value privacy should definitely improve the existing and preset privacy settings of the messenger! WhatsApp's standard privacy settings reveal a lot about its users - be it their profile picture or when they were last online.

You can reduce this data gap by, for example, setting as many options as possible to “Nobody” messenger’s privacy settings

Lucky at this point: Dasta can only monitor one account when using it for free. To have a second account or more logged, you have to pay. This means that a more in-depth evaluation (if you want to observe whether two people are communicating with each other and for how long) costs something.

And the most important point: No, the app cannot access the content of chats. As already mentioned, the app logs all publicly visible information as soon as you know the phone number of an account.

You should never forget: On social media, including messengers, nothing usually happens anonymously. You always leave an imprint somewhere that can be recorded and evaluated at the end.

If you want to be on the safe side, you should think right from the start about which apps you choose, what your data protection status is like and what traces you leave behind.
