Be careful – data collectors are still luring people with free CinemaxX tickets on Facebook. Think carefully about who you share your personal information with.

Alleged winning of CinemaxX tickets leads to data collectors

A status post on Facebook leads to an alleged win of CinemaxX tickets.
After a short round of questions, however, you end up in a completely different competition.

Status posts are currently spreading on Facebook that supposedly lead to a competition for movie tickets. But be careful, it is a bait to steal users' personal data and potential advertising consent.

The bait is posted in the form of a sponsored advertising post or directly by a friend who has already taken part in the supposed competition. Sharing the post is often a condition of the competition.

Anyone who follows the link will reach a website with a cinema design. The creators of the site claim that after a short question and answer session, the participant will receive a trip to the cinema for the whole family. We start the survey and answer three or four questions. By the way, it doesn’t matter which answer you choose – you always “win” in any case. Why? Because this isn't about free movie tickets, it's about your personal data!

Once the questions have been answered, the website tells us with congratulations that all we have to do is fill out our winning details on the next page. So we click on “Let’s go” again and go to another website.

Interestingly, it's no longer about movie tickets, but about winning a smartphone or a games console. We have just under 4 minutes left to collect the profit - of course this is only intended to put pressure on the user to reveal their data quickly. Facebook reviews are generated comments.

And where does it all end now?

In order to receive one of these attractive prizes, the participant must submit their data via the input mask at the end. In doing so, he not only plays it into the hands of the data collectors, but also has to agree to be informed about offers from various sponsors. And by informing we mean a deluge of advertising via email, telephone, push messages and/or post…

We have seen this exact method several times before. Also with other vouchers as a lure. The following companies, among others, kept coming to our attention: Naturvel PTE. LTO, adpublisher, red lemon media GmbH, Lead Spot Media, Proleagion, Spar Advisor Ltd., Planet49, Green Flamingo and others.
