“We are looking for testers” – beware of data collectors who entice you with McDonald’s vouchers.

Data collectors repeatedly try to lure users with competitions. It is currently said that McDonald's is giving away vouchers worth €250 for its 65th anniversary. However, that is just an excuse.

We take a closer look at the competition and click on the available link. He leads us to a Google Doc that contains a survey. The design gives the impression that the competition organizer is McDonald's.

But that's not the case: McDonald's itself has absolutely nothing to do with the competition.

And it doesn't matter at all what answers we choose in the question round. Even if we answer all questions negatively, we always “win” in every case. Why? Because the purpose of the competition is not for us  to win. As soon as we submit our personal data in the final step, the real organizers win.

Because, as in the case of the testers we were looking for for Hunkemöller , the competition is organized by a lead generator like 7sections and we only get the chance  to win a voucher. The deadline for entries is far in the future - sometime at the end of 2021 - and until then the organizer of course reserves the right to simply cancel the competition.

This is why data collectors want your data:

The creators of the competition win in any case because we would have to enter our data and, as part of the raffle, agree to make it available to a number of different sponsors. They can then inform us about offers from their respective business area. And by informing we mean a deluge of advertising via email, telephone, push notifications and/or post.

We have seen this method several times before. Also with other vouchers as a lure. The following companies, among others, kept coming to our attention: Naturvel PTE. LTO, adpublisher, red lemon media GmbH, Lead Spot Media, Proleagion, Spar Advisor Ltd., Planet49, Green Flamingo, 7sections and others.

Conclusion:

The fact that McDonald's is looking for testers for its products is just an excuse to lure users. McDonald's itself has absolutely nothing to do with this competition.

It's just a matter of collecting your data and selling it to sponsors. So you pay indirectly with your data in order to be able to take part in the competition and to be showered with advertising.

Stay away from such competitions!
