Facebook records each user's search history. However, you can easily delete this.
Facebook: Delete search history – The most important thing to start with
- What is stored in search history and why should you delete it?
- How to clear search history in Facebook for desktop?
- How to clear history on Facebook mobile app?
Just like history in an Internet browser, Facebook also records search history. All search queries are saved in your own activity log.
Why delete history?
Clearing your browser history removes all records of websites that have been visited. Deleting your history can prevent marketing software from gaining insight into your browsing preferences. It also protects privacy should the computer be stolen or otherwise gained access to the computer. Additionally, there may be some websites that you don't want anyone to know you've visited.

Facebook's search history
Search history is also recorded on Facebook. This is saved in the activity log and contains all search queries that have been made via Facebook. Names, pages, groups – everything is saved. This list provides further insight into the various activities on Facebook. This list is actually useless for you; you can only see what you were looking for at some point. But here too: If someone gains access to a Facebook profile, you may be able to find out something interesting from the search queries.
Clear search history on Facebook for desktop
If you are on Facebook for desktop on your PC, simply click on the search bar at the top and select “Edit”. If you click on “More” and then click on “Search History” in the left area, all search queries from the past will be displayed. Here you just select “Delete search history” at the top right and thus remove all entries.

There is another way to get there in Facebook for desktop, and that is via your own profile. Here you click on the “Activity log” at the top right, then click on “More” in the left area and select “Search history” here too.
Clear search history in the Facebook app for smartphones
To do this, simply open the Facebook app on your cell phone, click on the three-line symbol at the top right and select “Settings” under “Settings and Privacy”. Under “Your Facebook Information” you will find the “Activity Log”. Again, select “Search History” as the “Category” and click on “Delete Search Queries” to empty the history.

This way you can see all requests made and delete them if necessary.
