In 2014, Emil Voetzsch was supposed to vacate his place in the retirement home at the ripe old age of 100. Now it's 2018... and Mr. Voetzsch is 94 years old.
We were a little reminded of “ The Curious Case of Benjamin Button ” when we received this status post for review:

“A 94-year-old German, who experienced and survived two world wars, helped rebuild Germany, worked well all his life and paid taxes, is threatened with eviction from a retirement home because he can no longer bear the costs of the home alone. How miserable has this country become?
It can't be right that people who need our help the most should be dropped so harshly by us!
Share this picture if you too are stunned and want a change! NOW"
Déjà vu
If the image and text look familiar: Yes, we've reported on it several times since 2014 , but this time several details have changed.

While in the last four years that image was used to incite violence against refugees, it is now about heartless bureaucrats. And the gentleman who is happily giving up his place in the retirement home has become younger.
The left image with the inflammatory text originally from the website “Netzplanet”. But apart from the rejuvenation effect and the cheerfulness of the pensioner during the eviction: what is actually the story?
Why was he threatened with eviction?
“ RP-Online ” reported on this case alongside many other media outlets at the time. At that time, the head of the Jüchen senior center, John Esser, said that over the course of several months, outstanding debts of 15,000 euros had arisen that had not been paid. The senior center had to act because otherwise its liquidity would be threatened, i.e. the entire senior center would have had to close.
Was the poor man then sitting on the street?
No . In fact, the forced expulsion and that famous photo of Mr. Voetzsch being wheeled out of the senior center was a pretty clever ploy. The financial situation was unclear for a long time and the old man's need was unclear for a long time. The eviction notice then came, but employees from the public order office were already standing in front of the senior center and sent the pensioner back to his room .
Those employees had a decision for forced accommodation . And in this case, the municipality must cover the costs of accommodation. He no longer had to move out; his right of residence was valid for life.
Conclusion
Emil Voetzsch did not have to give up his place in the retirement home . He is probably 104 years old now, the makeover should probably make it more believable. And the happiness is easy to explain: in the photo he is symbolically giving up his seat, only to be immediately pushed back into his room.
