What exactly is changing?
For a long time, DHL offered the recipient signature service free of charge. But this service was deleted from the general terms and conditions (GTC) in April 2022. Now, a year later, the company is reintroducing the service, but for a fee.
The change only affects business customers. You have the option of booking the recipient's signature for an additional EUR 0.19 plus VAT per package. This gives you additional security: In addition to the signature of the deliverer, the signature of the recipient is also obtained and stored in the DHL accompanying system.
Why this step?
The news of the paid confirmation of receipt triggered a flood of critical voices on social networks. How can a service that was previously free now cost money?
In an interview with the “ Der Westen ” portal, DHL justified this decision: “If a customer requires the recipient’s signature in addition to the standard signature of the deliverer, this means additional effort for delivery, which will be charged accordingly.”
New standard in parcel delivery
DHL argues that delivery documentation is now the “new standard” and has already been taken into account in current pricing. Although this change may be unpleasant for some business customers, it appears to be a necessary step in the ever-changing logistics market.
The reaction of business customers and the public to this change remains to be seen. Will this change also be adopted by other parcel services? And how will it affect the relationship between DHL and its business customers? We at Mimikama will closely monitor developments and inform you of any important news.
Ultimately, this case underlines once again how important it is to stay informed about changes and innovations in the service sector. In an ever-changing world, it is important to stay informed and not be misled by rumors and misinformation.
