What are diagnostic apps?

These are programs with which we can check our symptoms, available for every smartphone. Symptom checker apps are like Dr. Google in app form – that is, certain applications that are intended to help users find the health information they need in a targeted manner.

Algorithms

The algorithms behind it are a manufacturer secret. As far as we know, the algorithms themselves are not based on the data that users enter, but rather there are fixed libraries of symptoms that can be entered and also fixed libraries of diseases that can emerge. It is the range of all possible diagnoses that distinguishes an app like this - much larger than a doctor could know off the top of his head.

Users trust apps

Especially when it comes to drug use, alcohol consumption, addictive behavior, but also urogenital problems, there are several studies that show that patients would trust Google or such apps more.

Potential and dangers of apps

A major danger of such apps is the incorrect diagnosis, which, in the worst case, causes the patient to panic. In contrast to a doctor, artificial intelligence has difficulty classifying certain symptoms into an overall picture.
