A photo shows a dog in the cemetery. He cowers fearfully in a cave under a grave. Of course there is a story about this - but it is fictitious.
The “true” vision of a dog in the cemetery – the most important thing to start with:
- A photo shows a dog in a cemetery crouching in a pit. It will be shared on Facebook with a touching story.
- It's about a dog that is said to have followed its master to the cemetery after his death. After a week he is said to have died on the owner's grave.
- This story is fictional. In fact, it is a stray who gave birth to her puppies in the hole in 2015.
We received inquiries about a status post in which it was claimed that a dog, after the death of his owner, followed him to the cemetery and died there.
There is also a photo of a dog crouching in a pit under the gravestone:

A true story
A man died and left his dog behind.
The man's son looked for the dog but couldn't find him, the dog had run away...
A few days later, the man is informed by the cemetery administration that a dog made a hole over the grave his father's digging!
He went to the cemetery and took his father's dog home.
Two days later, however, the dog ran away again and this continued for several days until the son was convinced to leave the dog in his father's grave. He came every day and brought him food and water. However, the dog refused to eat and did not allow anyone to come near the grave. He lived for a week until he died on his owner's grave...
I wonder what human being is capable of loving as unconditionally as this dog!
The fact check
As our colleagues from the dpa fact check report, it is a fake. The story is made up!
The photo actually shows a stray near the Serbian city of Nis, who raised her litter in this cave in 2015:
The Facebook page Tierjammer writes that the mother dog dug a hole in the ground under the gravestone and gave birth to her cubs there.
The German Press Agency asked Petra Pahl-Gerber, chairwoman of the Tierjammer association. She confirmed that the photos in particular were used as clickbait and in some cases for their own donations.

The dog family was saved and their further life was documented in this album . In June 2015, the Tierjammer association took a stand on the fake stories surrounding the dog and their reasons for lying in the hole under the grave in the cemetery.
Conclusion:
We agree with Petra Pahl-Gerber: Reality is bad enough, you don't have to invent things to get on Likefang.
The stories about the dog may all sound touching and touch the heart, but they are (for the most part) simply not true. In the worst case, people who were never there on site enrich themselves from the dog's fate and collect donations that might be more urgently needed elsewhere.
