Bad exchange transaction: 45-year-old falls for banknote fraud method.
In contrast to the fraud method with the 50 euro notes, the following note is not an urban legend.
The Homberg police are currently warning of fraud with a 1,000 lei note:
On the B 254 shortly before the town of Neukirchen-Asterode, a helpful 45-year-old from Neukirchen fell victim to currency fraud .
The 45-year-old was stopped by foreigners who were looking for help because they allegedly ran out of diesel for one of the vehicles. The man from Neukirchen was helpful, drove back to Neukirchen and got a 5 liter canister of diesel fuel. Now the gentlemen told the helper that they wouldn't get far with 5 liters of diesel and offered to exchange money. The 45-year-old agreed to the exchange after checking the currency online.
The perpetrators could be described as follows:
Main perpetrator:
- approx. 40 years,
- approx. 180 cm,
- strong,
- gray curly hair,
- dark complexion,
- Brown eyes,
- no glasses,
- 3-day beard (black-gray),
- spoke very broken German.
Companion:
- approx. 25 years,
- approx. 175 cm,
- sporty,
- black curls,
- dark complexion,
- Brown eyes,
- no glasses,
- no beard,
- wore holey jeans and a dark blue shirt.
- He had distinctive monochrome tattoos on the inside of his forearm and spoke very good English.
The group also included a woman, around 40 years old, a strong figure, long dark hair , and two children: a boy, around 6 years old, and a girl around 4 years old . All the people had a south-eastern European appearance and appeared to be a family.
The group was traveling in two cars: a dark Audi A 6 station wagon, dark, older model and a silver-metallic-colored VW Passat station wagon (diesel vehicle), both with Romanian country codes .
