It's about a photo and a bit of whataboutism: one picture shows a billboard. Someone is looking for diesel vehicles for Eastern Europe.

The most important things about “diesel vehicles for Eastern Europe” in brief:

  • Photo shows vehicle with advertising board
  • The picture is not fake
  • In fact, vehicles are being sought for export

A white flatbed truck, a large advertising poster, an inscription that annoys many social media users: “Diesel vehicles wanted for Eastern Europe” can clearly be read on this advertising poster.

Many people ask themselves: Why are “they” allowed to drive with the old diesel, but in Germany there are problems with environmental zones everywhere? You quickly get to climate policy and the comparison of why Germans should pay everything while others don't.

This comparison can also be found in the photo with the flatbed truck. Diesel vehicles for Eastern Europe, but none in Germany? The description of the posting reads:

…..that’s how it works, in other countries our cars continue to drive and the Germans pay the bill and save the world climate……

This photo also raises the question among many users as to whether the advertising message “diesel vehicles wanted for Eastern Europe” is real or whether Photoshop-Philipp was at work. We start the fact check!

Diesel vehicles: Not a fake!

These vehicles with the billboard really exist. Yes, we are talking about vehicles, as this flatbed truck is not a one-off. It is an advertising board that is used by a company from Bad Oldesloe.

This involves cars for export to Eastern Europe; diesel vehicles with a displacement of up to 2000 cm 3 sought. The company has also published an advertisement on eBay classifieds ( see archived version ).

Sales to Eastern Europe

In fact, the sale of old diesel vehicles to Eastern Europe is not a new phenomenon. Back in 2018, for example, Spiegel that many diesel vehicles were being exported to Romania, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The reason is the non-existent environmental zones and the lower consumption of diesel vehicles.

Deutschlandfunk delves even deeper into the matter with the article “A second life for old German diesels” and also highlights the shift in the environmental problem from West to East ( article here ).
