A current study by the digital association Bitkom shows that the majority of students in Germany are dissatisfied with the range of digital educational media available in their everyday school life. According to the representative survey of 504 students between the ages of 14 and 19, two thirds (68 percent) consider the technical equipment in their schools to be in need of improvement. In addition, 62 percent stated that the available programs and applications were outdated and 61 percent complained about the lack of digital educational media on offer. Another 61 percent complain about the low availability of digital educational media. 42 percent of those surveyed also believe it is not possible to use learning applications and similar resources sensibly in lessons.
Our opinion at Mimikama on digital educational media
In a world where digitalization is taking up more and more space in our daily lives, education and technology must go hand in hand. The report’s numbers are both alarming and disappointing. It is time for all of us to commit ourselves to the progress and modernization of the educational landscape.
We at Mimikama agree with this opinion and would like to emphasize that the problem is not limited to Germany. In many countries, students are faced with outdated or inadequate digital learning resources. It is a global problem that urgently needs a solution.
There are two main reasons for our approval
Firstly, it is about equity in the education system. All students, regardless of where they live, should have access to the best resources available. A lack of high-quality digital educational resources can lead to disadvantages for certain students.
Second, we emphasize the importance of preparing for the future. The job market and society as a whole are moving towards a digital age. If we don't give our students the right tools to navigate this digital world, we risk under-preparing them for their future.
Another important point is that digital educational media can make learning more flexible and adaptable . They enable individual learning that is tailored to the needs and abilities of the individual. They can increase students' interest and motivation and help them reach their full potential.
We hope that education leaders and policymakers around the world hear this call to improve digital education media and take action. It's about our future and the future of our children. It's time to take this issue seriously and make a change.
Support us in this call. It's not just about Germany. It's about education for everyone, worldwide.
Note: We offer, among other things, a Mimikama basic workshop , which offers participants a more comprehensive and deeper insight into the digital media landscape.
The basic version of the “Identifying Fake News!” workshop covers a broader range of topics, ranging from the basics of social media and the safe use of search engines to the basics of “debunking” and teaching digital media skills. What is also important to us is the ability to check external Internet content for manipulation.
Teachers also receive impulses for lesson design and teaching materials, which they can either use themselves or on the basis of which they can build their own teaching units.
Depending on the target group and needs, we can adapt and expand the basic workshop. For example, modules such as account verification or “threats and opportunities of AI/AI” can be added. The participants receive both a theoretical overview and practical insights and work on tasks for the respective modules in small groups.
With a duration of 4 to 5 hours (plus breaks), this workshop is designed so that it can be used as a full-day event or as a project day in schools. The event generally takes place as a face-to-face event. The maximum group size for this workshop is approx. 20 people or class size in schools. ( Requests )
At Mimikama, we firmly believe that education and awareness are the key to responsible and safe use of digital media. With our workshops we want to help students, teachers and anyone interested acquire the skills they need in an increasingly digitalized world.
